2. Raise your hand if you’ve ever been rejected for anything, anytime, anywhere. We all have. How would you like to have a nice tiny four-letter word for the next time you’re rejected? It’s: NEXT. Next sale, next job, next date, next whatever.

4. Parents of teens need to watch out for NMK Syndrome: Not My Kid, as in “my kid couldn’t have done ___” (fill in the blank). Well, yes, they could have. Even if you have dependably raised them not to do certain things, children still have the power of choice, which means they can make bad choices.

NMK Syndrome can blind you to something that needs immediate attention. Trust in your children and in your parenting, and always check out what you hear.

Many folks try to run their life train with the railcar (feelings) in the lead. Feelings are interesting and important, but they can't drive the train. Pay attention to your feelings, but let the facts/reality drive the train.

How not to Succeed in Business

24 January 2012 by

Here it is: the totally guaranteed secret of success in business…

Identify what people want and wage it to them efficiently.

Honestly. It really is that simple.

This, of course, begs the question, “If it really is that simple, why it is that there are so few successful people?”

So the real issue is not so much how to succeed in business as how not to succeed. There are three basic methods of imperfectness to succeed in business.

Method One is to change to refer accurately what people want. Most unsuccessful businesses make the mistake of trying to sell what the entrepreneur thinks the customer wants rather than what the customer actually wants. This is an simple mistake to make, given that customers are often unclear, not least in their own minds, what they really want. The demand of clarity might deceive the entrepreneur into thinking that he can exploit the uncertainty by clever marketing. This is a classic error because, even though clever selling might be deceptively successful in the short term, it can't build a viable business if what is being sold is essentially unwanted.

Method Two is to change to deliver what it wanted in an efficient way. This covers both relative inefficiency – where one is simply not as efficient as one’s competitors – and absolute inefficiency – where one is so inefficient that one can't even turn a profit even if one has no competitors! Inefficiency can take many forms – inefficient marketing, inefficient financing, inefficient strategy, inefficient cost control, inefficient management, inefficient operations, inefficient pricing, inefficient administration, etc – any one of which can destroy a company with a sound business intent to serve an accurately identified customer want.

Method Three, however, is by far the most common.

It is, quite simply, not to try – or, at least, not to try properly.

The vast majority of people do not try at all. This is not necessarily to their discredit. They define success by standards other than financial. They have other priorities – perhaps their families, or a hobby, or a political or a charitable cause – and money is only a means to an end to them. They might well be right.

Yet there are others who do try, but try so half-heartedly that they would have been superior off not trying at all.

Although commitment does not guarantee success, it is a necessary precondition. Anyone setting out to succeed in business must comprehend that it demands focus – at least in the key phases. It demands that one works when others are idle, and that one invests when others are spending. One must accept that enterprise is risk – and risk means being prepared to sacrifice.

All sorts of people have found success in business. Private enterprise is the only true meritocracy. Yes, it helps to be intelligent or good-looking or socially skilled or born into money or well-connected, but there are people who have succeeded without any of those advantages – and people who unsuccessful despite having them all.

Many multi-millionaires are people from a poor background with tiny education and tiny in the way of social sparkle. Some are plodders. What they had was a commitment to their businesses, based on a commitment to succeed.

While it is true that many with a similar commitment still change – either because they make mistakes or because the ball bounces the wrong way or, most commonly, through a combination of both – it is unlikely that one will ever succeed without it.

Does Your Business Marketing Strategy Fit Today’s Economy?

Does Your Business Marketing Strategy Fit Today’s Economy?

Is your current business marketing strategy addressing the opportunities that exist even in the current economic downturn? When was the last time you reviewed your business objectives to insure they are aligned with the current market conditions? The economic impact of the current global recession has consumers curtailing their spending in many areas therefore this dictates a change in our own marketing direction.

Although consumers might be spending less money it is still being spent. It is up to marketers to make the necessary adjustments to determine what consumer are buying and why. Obviously a shift in priorities is at the root of this and this change needs to be identified and addressed. If done properly a more effective and appropriate marketing message can be developed to address the change.

Here are 3 key areas in which attention must be focused to make the changes necessary in order to capitalize on the current economic environment.

Get Inside Customers Head

Are you even marketing the right type of goods or services? We are dealing with more of a ‘scarcity’ mindset than an ‘abundance’ mentality and this changes everything!

Current conditions have undoubtedly modified the thinking and priorities of today’s consumers. Re-examine profiles insofar as the needs, desires and problems customer wants to solve.

Priorities have changed, sometimes dramatically for many and as a result there has been a shift in the mindset of the consumer. What might have appealed to them formerly is likely no longer the case.

Reexamine Your Direction

What are you marketing and to whom? Could it be that your market has shrunk while another market has bloomed without you ‘really’ paying attention?

Is your current approach applicable in today’s market conditions? Does what you have to offer or the way it is presented to the consumer match up well with their current needs?

Your evaluation of the consumer’s current mindset will help you refer the necessary steps you need to take to superior direct your promotional efforts. The crowds are still out there they are just going elsewhere and not spending as much.

Implement Promotional Push

Get out in front of the public and/or consumer and get yourself noticed and don’t move for them to find you. Now is not the time to decrease your marketing efforts but rather direct them in accordance with the ‘swing’ in the market demand.

Find out where the traffic is and target your efforts in this direction.

Social network marketing is likely the most applicable avenue to take in a down economy since people feel stronger need to ‘connect’ and network out. It also gives the customer a superior chance to become familiar with marketers thereby boosting their confidence level in a time where their sense financial security has been shaken.

Your business marketing strategy requires periodic updating in order to adjust to ever changing market conditions. Now more then ever the current global economic downturn dictates a review of your current business objectives and marketing direction. The economic environment we grappling this day necessitates a change to superior reflect the current consumer mindset. Even though the economic impact of the global recession has changed spending habits buys are being made nonetheless. It is up to marketers to refer this shift in both consumer spending and their priorities to reflect a more appropriate marketing message. If done correctly the marketing community as a whole will superior address consumer needs while maintaining their own profitability.
